Your extra protein scoop leaves as rotten-egg gas
The powder is having its moment. New US guidelines this year pushed the target up to 1.2–1.6 grams per kilo of body weight. So the shakes got bigger. Bars, protein coffee, pancakes with a scoop stirred in… it went into everything.
But your small intestine can only absorb so much at one sitting. Whatever it misses slides on down. And in your colon, protein is not fuel for you. It's dinner for bacteria that breathe sulfur instead of oxygen.
What those bacteria hand back is a gas that smells like a cracked egg. And the amount climbs with every extra gram you send down.
A Harvard lab then watched the switch flip in a single day.
10 people went animal-only and the sulfur bugs woke up overnight
Lawrence David and Peter Turnbaugh put 10 volunteers on meat, eggs and cheese. Nothing green went with it.
Their gut bugs shifted one day after the food arrived. One name jumped out of the data: Bilophila wadsworthia. It feeds on a sulfur compound in your bile, and it treats sulfur the way you treat air.
The team also counted the gene these bugs use to build the gas. More copies showed up, and each bug ran the gene harder. Nature ran the paper in 2014.
So your bathroom smells worse for days. Where's the harm in a smell?
"Melt" Dark Spots In 15 Days (Accidental Discovery)
A couple of years ago we did a weird lab experiment.
We took an extract of Italian Kiwis…
Applied it to a cluster of melanin cells (what dark spots are made of)...
And watched as the melanin cells MELTED before our eyes.
18 months of further lab work followed.
Until we perfected a simple, at-home treatment that “melts” away the appearance of dark spots in as little as 15 days.
Here's the really crazy part…
It’s 20 TIMES more effective than the common ingredients you find in dark spot creams…
And doesn’t cause any burning or skin irritation.
To show off a clearer, purer complexion the rest of this summer (and beyond).
Hydrogen sulfide jams the only fuel your gut wall burns
Your colon lining runs on butyrate. That's the little fat your good bugs build out of fiber, and it powers the cells holding your gut wall shut.
That gas gets in the way. It blocks the enzyme that starts burning butyrate, and it jams the last step of the cell's power plant. The fuel is right there. Your cell can't touch it.
So it flips to burning sugar. That leaves oxygen unused, and it drifts into a space built to have none. Air-tolerant bugs move in, butyrate makers get crowded out, and each round leaves fewer of them than the last.
All of it traces back to one amino acid: cysteine.
Whey isolate carries more cysteine than any powder on the shelf
Cysteine is a sulfur amino acid. The bacteria downstream snip the sulfur off and let the gas go. Whey is packed with the stuff — one 25-gram scoop can carry up to 700 mg.
That's why whey gets sold as a glutathione booster. Same sulfur, different story further down the pipe.
Now stack a day of it. Shake at breakfast, bar at 3pm, another one after the gym. Three sulfur deliveries, and the leftovers your small intestine missed land exactly where those bugs sit.
Bilophila gets a bonus gift as well. Your bile carries taurine, another sulfur amino acid, and a big fatty shake sends more bile down with it.
But those bacteria have a favorite food, and protein is not it.
Hand your gut bugs a carb and they leave your protein alone
Gut bacteria reach for carbs first. Put a fermentable one next to the scoop, and they take the carb while your protein slides on past. Less sulfide comes out the other end, and more butyrate gets built.
So the fix is not less protein. It's what sits beside it.

🥖
Rye Slow-ferment grain that keeps bugs busy for hours |
🥕
Carrots Soft fiber they grab well before any amino acid |

🌾
Buckwheat A carb your bugs pick over protein every time |
🍊
Oranges Pectin — sweet, cheap, blends into any shake |
And it works best when you stop deciding each time.
Put a fermentable carb next to every scoop
Simplest version: your shake never travels alone. Blend the orange in. Eat a carrot with it. Or drop a slice of rye toast next to the glass.

Give the pairing four days. The smell will tell you it worked.
Your gut bugs eat whatever gets there first.
Give them a carb, and the smell never starts.
The mucus sheet lining your gut is roughly one-tenth cysteine, stitched together by tiny sulfur bridges. Spare hydrogen sulfide snips them open — the same gas loosening the wall it came from.
